Tuesday, February 14, 2023 – Wilder 101
On February 14th, Professor Yu-chi Chang delivered a talk entitled “Antimony, Wartime, Sino-American Cooperation, and the Mysterious Archives” as part of the LIASE Research-in-Progress series. During the talk, Professor Chang shared his archival research from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in College Park, Maryland, where he came across sources about the extraction, transportation, and trading of China’s antimony and other minerals during his visit last summer. Chang discussed the power dynamics between Nationalist China and the United States in the Sino-American antimony trade before the Pearl Harbor attack. Roughly 40 students, faculty, and community members gathered in Wilder 101 for the talk and a lively Q&A session.
