Geology professor Amanda Schmidt discussed her research as a Fulbright Scholar in Environmental Science at Sichuan University, China, in 2019-2020. Schmidt hypothesized a large lake used to fill the Yanyuan Basin in southwest Sichuan. If she could prove that the lake existed, her research would have major implications for the archaeology and geology of the region over the past 2000 years, but the pandemic resulted in drastic changes to her research and living conditions.
