On November 14, 2019, 25 hearty souls bundled up and walked Tappan Square for a Green Legacy Tree Tour. We met the Green Legacy ginko sapling, and then visited some of its neighbor trees (Hemlock/tsuga, Bald cypress, and Kentucky Coffee tree). The Tree tour started inside Peters Hall, where students spoke about Oberlin’s partnership with Green Legacy, and told the story of Katsuda Shinno’s research on hibaku jumoku in 1947 (from Ishida Yuko’s book). College faculty and students, along with community members from Kendal, joined the tour.
