November 8, 10am – 2:30pm
Location: AJLC102
As a seismically active area that has been recovering from the massive 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake with diverse ethnic and economic communities, western Sichuan is an ideal natural laboratory for studying the resilience of communities to natural disasters. Participants will examine the role of local preparation and outside involvement in rebuilding to better understand how to increase resilience in areas before natural disasters in order to speed up recovery following the disaster.
Seminar Format
The seminar will be discussion-based, facilitated by Amanda Schmidt and Steve Wojtal. Topics include disaster recovery, seismic history of China, resilience, and pedagogical approaches to integrating resilience into teachings and various curriculum.
Grant Availability
Seminar participants are eligible to apply for Curriculum Development grants for integrating Environmental studies and Asian Studies into their classes.
Seminar Registration
If you would like to participate in the seminar, please fill out the short registration form on the “Nov 8 Seminar Registration” page by Oct. 29.
